Whether you’re up for a sunrise summit or a leisurely shaded stroll, we’ve rounded up seven of the best dog-friendly trails in the Valley where your four-legged bestie is welcome. Just don’t forget the leash, plenty of water (for both of you!), and poop bags. Let’s hike!
1. Papago Park – Double Butte Loop
Location: Phoenix/Tempe Border
Distance: 2.3 miles round trip
Trail Type: Easy loop
Why We Love It: Iconic red rock formations, wide trails, and plenty of photo ops. Perfect for a mellow morning walk or a post-work sunset trek.
2. South Mountain – Mormon Trail to Hidden Valley
Location: South Mountain Park, Phoenix

Trail Type: Moderate out-and-back
Why We Love It: Natural tunnels, boulder scrambles, and breathtaking desert views. Hidden Valley is a doggie dreamland.
3. Dreamy Draw Recreation Area – Charles M. Christiansen Trail

4. McDowell Sonoran Preserve – Gateway Loop Trail
